Bicentennial
Moment
The
first seven of the Xaverian Brothers arrived in Louisville in August of 1854.
Because of the unsettled times and anti-Catholic feelings, Bishop
Spalding advised them to live with private families.
They are said to have hidden their valuables in St. John's Cemetery in
Portland. Later the Brothers would
staff several grade schools and open the only all male high school in
Louisville, St. Xavier High School, until Flaget High School opened in 1942.

www.stbrigidvg.org:
Have you seen our web site recently?
It includes bulletin info and other interesting links including the new
"From Father Dan" that will have some homily excerpts and who
knows what else. Thanks to Barbara
French for posting to this site.
Scheduling
Mass Intentions:
A new policy will take effect immediately concerning scheduling Masses.
No more than 6 Masses per calendar year can be scheduled, except for
funeral Masses. Also no more than
half of the Masses can be scheduled on a Sunday.
We only have three Masses available per week and we are already booked up
until the end of April 2009. It is
becoming increasingly difficult to schedule funeral Masses, and so these limits
must be implemented.
Altar
Society Meeting:
The regular meeting for the Altar Society will be Thursday, September
4th, at 7:00 PM in the St. Brigid Room.
All old and new members of St. Brigid Church are invited to join us.
Centennial
Closing Celebration:
Mark your calendar for September 14th at 4:00 PM for the closing
celebration of St. Brigid's 100th anniversary.
This will be a potluck dinner with the parish providing the meat and
drinks. Historical church items,
etc. will also be on display. This
will be a nice time to get to visit more with each other.
If you have any item/s you would like to share for the display of St.
Brigid Church and School, please contact the office at 877-2461.
St.
Brigid Church Financial Report
- Copies of the financial report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2008 are at
the doors of the church and posted on the bulletin boards for those who are
interested.
The
Jenkins/Vowels families
cordially invite the St. Brigid Faith Community to a special Mass honoring
Clarence and Irene Jenkins. We are
celebrating Pop's 90th birthday and their 65th Wedding Anniversary on Saturday
evening, September 6th with a 6:30 PM liturgy with Fr. Wayne Jenkins
presiding. The regular Sunday
collection will be taken up as this Mass fulfills your Sunday obligation.
There will be no reception following Mass, but a card basket will be
available. Thank you for your love
and support to this couple during their many years here at St. Brigid.
School
Building Committee Report:
Please read the memo on the church bulletin boards and on the website
summarizing the first two meetings. Your
comments are welcome! The next

the St. Brigid Room.
FORMATION

The talk will be preceded by a barbecue sandwich supper from 4:00 - 4:30 PM (donations accepted) in the CCC. American Catholic Bishops are calling for more, not less, political engagement. What are the most important issues facing our country today? Learn how the principles of Catholic Social Teaching can help us approach the important political issues that demand our attention.
